What To Do After Laser Tattoo Removal

Some people think that to remove a tattoo successfully all you need is the laser (and technician) to do their work. But this is to simplify the process. In order to get the very best outcome there are many things you can or should do both before (see previous blog) and after a laser treatment.

At Original Laser Studio we will always provide you with very detailed pre and aftercare advice; however, here are some of the main points to follow or consider post treatments –

1.Wear clean, loose fitting clothing – remember to dress for AFTER your treatment, eg if a leg tattoo don’t wear tight jeans

2.Keep the lasered skin clean and dry. It’s actually best to leave it alone completely and, if possible, uncovered for the first 24 hours.

3.If the skin is likely to be rubbed or get dirty, eg if you are a mechanic, use a sterile, non- adherent dressing for a min of 3 days post treatment

4.A cold compress can be used as well as paracetamol (not aspirin) for pain relief

5.Antiseptic ointments, 1% hydrocortisone cream, aloe vera gel, and Fade The Heat (stocked here) may all be used initially (check dosages). Also the homoepathic remedy Arnica 30c can be taken immediately post treatment(s).

6.At the itching stage (you’ll know it!) use Aquaphor, hydrocortisone cream, vit E ointment or good old Bepanthem to keep the area moisturised.  Bio oil helps lift any resistant scabs gently.

7.Don’t soak the skin, keep it dry. If showering get the area wet as little as possible and pat (don’t rub) dry

8.Do not drink alcohol for a few days post treatment. Note that smoking will hinder the healing process and may inhibit ink removal.

9.Do not pick off scabs or burst blisters…let the healing occur naturally

10.Keep the area out of the sun…including sunbeds.

There are other things you can do to help yourself which you’ll be advised on when here. If you look after your skin (and yourself) properly you will stand the best chance of seeing a very good outcome.
