There are many things you can do both before laser treatments that will help with healing, prevention of scarring and in ultimately achieving the best result.
Here at Original Laser Studio we endorse the following before each laser session –
• As a general rule, DO NOT come for a treatment until your tattoo is at least 6 months old.
• Avoid alcohol for a min of 48 hours before treatment sessions. Alcohol dilates blood vessels
so will increase the risk of bleeding
• Wear loose fitting clothing if the area to be treated has to be covered
• The area should not be suntanned, exposed to UV light or have fake tan applied.
(Ideally you should leave 4 weeks after tanning before coming for a treatment)
• DO NOT wear perfumes, deodorants, sunblock, essential oils or any other lotions/
creams over the area to be treated (may cause photosensitivity). Your skin
should be clean and dry.
• Try to give up smoking as smoking can inhibit both the treatment’s effectiveness
and your recovery
• DO NOT depilate any treatment area (wax, pluck, thread) before and/or between
treatments. Shaving or depilatory creams are acceptable. In any event hair needs to be
shaved off if covering/within the tattoo
• AVOID swimming in chlorinated water immediately before any laser treatment
• AVOID exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels of the treatment area for a min period
of 1 week prior to any treatment
• HYDRATE the body by drinking plenty of water
Some medications (including herbal) and medical conditions prevent or delay
treatment e.g St Johns Wort so this needs to be disclosed at your initial consultation.
Anyone with very dark or tanned skin is unsuitable for treatment as the laser may
cause permanent cell damage.
