Possibly the most frequently asked question we hear after ‘how much will this cost?’ is ‘how many sessions will this take?’…and this is the hardest question to answer. If you do an internet search on the subject you will see quotes from as little as 2 sessions up to 20+ and of course this will make a hell of a difference to how much you pay overall to be rid of that unwanted ink.
The saying ‘no two people are the same’ accurately describes laser tattoo removal. Certainly, on paper, the odds should be in your favour for fast removal if you are pale skinned with a black tattoo that is anywhere between 5 and 15 years old. And here at Original Laser Studio in Hertfordshire we have seen (and can show you in photos) black ink that has gone after 2 laser sessions. In fact sometimes, even after just the patch test, some ink will disappear completely. However, we have also seen very resistant ink, or what appears to be resistant ink though it may be other factors drawing out the process, primarily how well your immune system can clear the fragmented ink particles. Also, if the tattoo is a cover-up of an older tattoo i.e a double layer of ink this will usually (but not always) mean removal takes more laser sessions. In addition, there is no way of knowing what ink has been used…tattoo ink is not legislated for here in the UK and if the tattoo was done abroad who knows what’s in there? This being said, the vast majority of tattoos we see here respond well to our laser other than those pesky difficult colours…notoriously green/aqua ink which we can offer you advice on.
